New build Extra Care development for community housing association within residential area of Erskine, comprising 20 no. self-contained flats arranged around a sensory garden with integrated communal support facilities. The flats were designed to be ‘dementia friendly’ with a simple layout and large windows to improve the level of natural light and offer view out over the landscape. Bright colours were used to assist with way finding and to act as visual cues for elderly residents in an effort to provide clarity and ease orientation. The flats and the gardens are all barrier free and suitable for wheelchair access. Designed to Scottish Government Housing for Varying Needs Standards and the development received Secured by Design accreditation.
