CAHID Teaching Facility, University of Dundee

CAHID (Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification) Phase 1 consisted of the internal rearrangement and refurbishment of a redundant mortuary facility within The University of Dundee’s Medical Sciences Institute building to create a new anatomical teaching space.

Wellwood Leslie were appointed to carry out feasibility investigations to provide outline proposals and visualisations for the client to use for prospective funding applications to stakeholders. After gaining publicity and success in a number of funding applications, the project secured enough support to complete the first phase of the works. Wellwood Leslie acted as lead consultant to deliver the first phase of works which provided the facility with a large anatomical teaching suite comprising 9no surgical bays, each with their own monitor, surgical light and bespoke anatomical table capable of functioning as both an operating surface and conventional teaching desk.

The second phase of the works consists of a new variable configuration public engagement extension to the medical sciences institute building, also housing a new independent entrance to the facility for visitors, staff and students. This phase remains on hold until further funds are available.
