The honour of hosting the world’s most celebrated golfing event, the Open Championship, is restricted to a mere handful of illustrious venues. In the late 1990s, the facilities at historic Carnoustie, where the game has been played since the early 16th century, were tired and in need of a complete overhaul if it was to retain its position as one of the five current Scottish settings.
The project involved the complete demolition of the existing Links Management accommodation before work on the new facilities could begin and the construction phase was conducted over a narrow 12 month period. The restrictive deadline demanded a high level of coordination of the different agencies contributing to the project, including overseas interior design consultants.
