Morrison's Academy Nursery


Morrisons Academy commissioned Wellwood Leslie to provide a full Architectural Service for the design and construction of a new Nursery in 2009, thus allowing the Academy to extend its age range and cater for children ages 3-5 and acting as a lead into their already established primary school and high school facilities.

Situated on the site of an existing building in Academy grounds, Wellwood Leslie guided the School through a thorough feasibility study and further , including outline design, planning consent, detailed design, warrant and tender and finally contract administration to completion. Wellwood Leslie provided a complete consultancy services, managing all sub-consultancy services including cost control, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering through a single contract.

The new building is located in a heavily wooded area at the north West corner of the Academy Grounds, making full use of the extensive grounds for children’s play area and allowing an easy transition from Nursery to Primary education and beyond.

The design of the building houses up to 64 children in 3 south facing classrooms, maximising levels of daylight with large glazed screens facing out onto the playground. The interiors are furnished with cloud-shaped lighting fixtures and curved storage wall, bringing playful elements into the children’s learning environment.
