Wellwood Leslie Chartered Architects carried out feasibility and design proposals for the renovation and interior fit-out of Kelly Castle, a Grade B listed castle near Arbroath.
Extensive sympathetic restoration work was undertaken externally including re-roofing,re-pointing and replacement worn stonework. A geothermal heating system was also installed.
Non-original linings installed after the second world war were stripped back to the bare stone and reinstated incorporating sympathetic breathable green construction materials where possible. The layout was adapted to create a modern family home with traditional features exposed where appropriate.
The master suite, which takes up the full third floor of Kelly castle, consists of a of large open plan en-suite bathroom flanked by sleeping and dressing areas. Wellwood Leslie Architects designed all fitted furniture including bed, cabinets, vanity, wardrobes and the fitting out the turret as a shoe store.
