Angus Historical Park, House of Dun

Wellwood Leslie recently completed a refurbishment of the courtyard range at the House of Dun in Montrose on behalf of the National Trust for Scotland. The projects aim was to expand and transform the existing visitor experience currently located within the Georgian mansion house designed for David Erskine, the 13th Laird of Dun by celebrated architect William Adam.

Wellwood Leslie led a full design team, including interpretation and exhibition consultants, to form a new visitor attraction complimenting the existing mansion house. Careful conservation and redevelopment were required to ensure the heritage of the ‘category A’ listed property was maintained.

Facilities consist of a series of heritage and interpretation spaces, café, ticket & retail sales area, and upgraded toilet facilities, centered around a landscape court with game larder.

The courtyard range now provides a space for the Angus Folk Collection assembled in the mid-20th Century by Lady Maitland. This collection is a celebration of the heritage of Angus showcasing the lives of everyday people and the items they used. In addition, the existing house has been lifted.
